Using the MOJO App: A Quick Guide for Community Coaches

This article guides coaches through the basics of using my recommended app for MBA domestic coaches, MOJO. The free app has a full suite of features for team management including chat, schedule and media uploads, but this article will focus purely on its role in coach development and planning training sessions.

Whether you are an U8s team or an U16s team, there will be activities here to suit your team and provide them with challenging and fun sessions. The app’s algorithm ensures that your trainings are tailored to the age group and have the right balance of…

  • Skill development

  • Small-sided games

  • Scrimmages/gameplay

Trust me it’s worth it, so let’s dive in!

Downloading the App

First, download the app using the link below according to your phone:

Getting Started

  • You’ll first be asked to “create a team”, where you will provide information about your team.

  • You will also be asked to “set your organisation” when setting up the app. We recommend selecting “Basketball Australia Coaches” as this includes a range of extra pre-set training sessions along with articles and podcasts.

The Home Page

There’s a few key features to take note of on your home page:

  • Team Activities: Takes you to a library of all 60+ activities, with a section for those you have bookmarked specifically.

  • Practice Plans: Pre-prepared, themed practice sessions you can use

  • Home Training: Activities for individual or small group skill development.

  • Add Event: Create your own training plans and manage your calendar, covered in the next section.

If you’ve added “Basketball Australia Coaches” as your organisation, you’ll see an extra section to explore Basketball Australia content which we recommended checking out.

Creating a Training Plan

Head to “Add Event” and select “practice” as the event type. If you’re not using the app for your team communication, you can skip the “message to team” setion.

  • After adding date/time/location details, you’ll be asked to create a plan by either:

    1. Selecting one of the 100+ themed practice sessions that are ‘ready to go’. The app will indicate if they are appropriate for your group or “likely easy/likely hard“

    2. Having the MOJO app create one for you based on your algorithm.

    3. Creating one manually using the full list of activities.

The Practice Plan

Once you’ve created a session, you can…

  • Watch videos of the activities

  • Edit it by adding/removing activities,

  • Print off a hard copy

So there you have it - the basics of the MOJO coaches app. If you have any questions, please contact me at doc@mckinnonbasketball.org.
