Basketball Victoria Honours Long Serving McKinnon Volunteers
McKinnon Basketball congratulates Ian Leckie, Alison Gehrig and Ilya Fisher on being recognised through the 2026 Basketball Victoria Service Awards as part of National Volunteer Week.
Ian Leckie was recognised for the outstanding milestone of 50 Years of Service to basketball, while Alison Gehrig and Ilya Fisher were both acknowledged for 15 Years of Service.
Ian continues to play a significant role within the basketball community as a McKinnon Cougars VJBL Coach and Chair of the Basketball Victoria Junior Representative Commission. Across five decades of coaching, Ian has coached both boys and girls teams across junior and senior levels, while also helping grow opportunities for female participation and development within basketball.
Alison Gehrig has been a long serving contributor through her involvement on Big V scorebench and MBA venue management, helping ensure domesitc game day operations continue to run smoothly.
Ilya Fisher has also played an important role within the association through many years of dedicated service to the Bentleigh Lakers including the role of club president, MBA referee and referee supervisor roles, and Big V scorebench duties.
These acknowledgements reflect the incredible contribution each person has made to the McKinnon basketball community through years of dedication, commitment and volunteer service.
