3×3 basketball is coming to McKinnon!
Dates: Boys - Saturday 12th September & Girls - Sunday 13th September
Competition Structure:
Each team will play minimum 4 pool games with top-ranked teams progressing to finals. (Pending team registration numbers).
Teams are not required to be made of MBA Winter 2026 or Summer 2026/27 teams.
Players may form teams with players from any club/team, without permits, however teams must wear matching/consistent singlets. Shorts do not need to match.
Cost: $90 per team, plus Playhq and Basketball Victoria player registration fees.
Age/Times:
As per MBA Domestic Competition Winter 2026
Age Groups will be played in 80min blocks, determined by grading. Exact times TBC pending registrations however potential could be. Game times may be earlier, but will not finish later than listed below:
Under 12s: 2015 and 2016 Borns
Division 3 - 9:00am to 10:20am
Division 2 - 10:20am to 11:40am
Division 1 - 11:40am to 12:00pm
Under 14s: 2013 and 2014 Borns
Division 3 - 1:00am to 2:20pm
Division 2 - 2:20pm to 3:40pm
Division 1 - 3:40pm to 5:00pm
Under 16s: 2011 and 2012 Borns
Open Division, pending registration numbers- 4:30pm to 6:30pm

‘royal stacks’ kings & Queens 3×3 Tournament RULES
Court and Ball: Half of a regular basketball court, one basket. Regular basketball used in all categories.
Team Roster: 4 players: 3 on court, 1 substitute.
Substitutions: Any dead ball, from the team bench. No notice to the referee required.
Referees: One referee per hoop. Grand Final: two referees.
Timekeeper / Scorer: Each team must provide a scorer, who tracks team fouls via PlayHQ.
Time-outs: None in pool or regular games. Grand Final: one 30-second time-out per team; game clock keeps running.
Initial Possession: Decided by coin flip.
Scoring: 1 point inside the arc, 2 points behind the arc, 1 point per free throw.
Game Duration: 10-minute timeslot (continuous, no stoppages). First to 21 points wins immediately.
Shot Clock: No formal shot clock – managed verbally. If possession runs long (~15 seconds+), the referee calls a 5-second countdown to shoot. No shot attempted = violation, possession to the opponent.
Free Throws (shooting foul): 1 free throw for a missed shot inside the arc; 2 free throws for a missed shot behind the arc. Two free throws awarded from the team's 7th foul.
Team Fouls: Penalty from 7th, 8th, 9th foul: 2 free throws. From 10th foul: 2 free throws + possession.
Possession – after a basket / dead ball: Check ball at the top of the arc.
Possession – after a defensive rebound or steal: Ball must be cleared behind the arc before an attempt at goal.
