Cougars Book Big V Grand Final Double
The McKinnon Cougars will have two teams competing for Big V championships after the Championship Women and Championship Men secured Semi Final victories at GESAC on Saturday night.
The Championship Women defeated the Bulleen Boomers by 45 points before the Championship Men completed the double with a 14-point victory over the Camberwell Dragons.
Both teams will now advance to their respective Big V Grand Finals this Saturday.
CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – McKinnon Cougars (100) defeated Bulleen Boomers (55)
The Championship Women booked their place in the Big V Grand Final with a dominant 45-point victory over Bulleen.
McKinnon took control with a 34-point opening quarter and continued to extend the margin throughout the night. The Cougars held the Boomers to just 20 points after halftime while recording 30 assists, 15 steals and 57 rebounds in an impressive team performance.
Kayce Vaile led the way with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals, shooting 11-of-18 from the field. Jayvn Nicholson added 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Maighan Hedge produced 12 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Sarae Beveridge contributed 11 points, while Amy Baum finished with 10 points, 5 assists and 3 steals.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – McKinnon Cougars (100) defeated Camberwell Dragons (86)
The Championship Men completed McKinnon’s Grand Final double with a 14-point victory over Camberwell.
The Cougars trailed by four points at halftime before taking control with a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Dragons 25–10. McKinnon then produced a 31-point final period to secure its place in the Championship Men Grand Final.
Troyce Manassa led McKinnon with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists, while Josh McQueen added 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Garrett Levesque delivered an important contribution with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks, shooting 7-of-9 from the field. Josh Uhr-Henry added 14 points and 4 assists, while Mitchell Barry recorded 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
The victories set up a huge Saturday for McKinnon Basketball, with both Championship teams now one win away from lifting a Big V trophy.
