Cougars Close Regular Season with Three Big V Victories
The McKinnon Cougars completed the Big V regular season with three victories across the weekend.
The Championship Women produced dominant wins over Hume City and Bellarine, while the Championship Men held off Hume City in a thrilling finish at GESAC.
SATURDAY
CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – McKinnon Cougars (115) defeated Hume City Broncos (54)
The Championship Women made a dominant start to the weekend, defeating Hume City by 61 points at GESAC.
McKinnon took control with a 39-point opening quarter and continued to extend the margin throughout the first three periods. The Cougars shot 52% from the field, made 16 three-pointers and recorded 33 assists in an impressive team performance.
Kayce Vaile led the way with 23 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 10-of-12 from the field. Sarae Beveridge added 20 points and connected on 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, while Maighan Hedge finished with 16 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.
Jayvn Nicholson recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists, while Amy Baum contributed 8 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. Annabel Fitter and Jennie Rintala also scored 11 points each.
CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – McKinnon Cougars (98) defeated Hume City Broncos (95)
The Championship Men closed their regular season with a thrilling three-point victory over Hume City.
McKinnon trailed by five points after the opening quarter before drawing level at halftime. The Cougars moved ahead during the third period and held off a late Broncos challenge to secure the win.
Troyce Manassa led McKinnon with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, shooting 10-of-15 from the field. Josh McQueen added 23 points and 5 rebounds, while Mitchell Barry finished with 14 points and 6 assists.
Michael Aminov provided another important contribution off the bench with 10 points and 3 assists, while Josh Uhr-Henry added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
SUNDAY
CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – McKinnon Cougars (87) defeated Bellarine Storm (57)
The Championship Women completed an unbeaten weekend with a commanding 30-point victory over Bellarine.
After leading by four points at quarter time, McKinnon broke the game open with a 28-point second quarter. The Cougars held Bellarine to just eight points in the final period to finish the regular season on a high.
Kayce Vaile produced another standout performance with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Maighan Hedge added 15 points and 4 assists, while Romy Price contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
Jayvn Nicholson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jennie Rintala added 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The victory completed a perfect weekend for the Championship Women and brought the Cougars’ Big V regular season to a successful close.
