How Grading Works in the MBA Summer 2026/27 Junior Domestic Season

The first four rounds of the MBA Summer 2026/27 Junior Domestic Season are grading rounds. During this time, McKinnon Basketball Association reviews team results and performances to place teams in divisions that are as balanced and competitive as possible.

Grading is managed by a group of experienced volunteers from across our basketball community, working with the MBA Competitions Team. The group considers results from past seasons, representative players and their player points. They also compare results across teams and look for anomalies, such as a game that may not reflect a team’s usual performance. No single result determines a team’s division.

Rounds ONE & TWO

Fixtures will be released weekly. The grading group will review results alongside the information available about each team. Minor adjustments may be made between the first two rounds as the group begins to assess how teams compare.

After Round 2, the group will review results and performances more broadly. It will also check for unusual results before making more significant division changes ahead of Rounds 3 and 4.

Rounds THREE & FOUR

Fixtures will continue to be released weekly while teams play in their updated divisions. The grading group will assess whether those changes have produced competitive games, while continuing to compare results and account for anomalies.

After Round 4, the group will complete a final review and make any necessary changes.

What happens after grading ROUNDS 1-4?

The competition will then enter a confirmation phase. The grading group will continue to monitor results as divisions settle, but only essential changes will be made. Fixtures will continue to be released weekly.

Ladders will reset after Round 4, marking the start of the regular season. Check the latest fixtures and results on PlayHQ before each game.

Uniforms and player eligibility

Uniform penalties will not be enforced during Rounds 1 to 4 to give new teams and players time to organise their uniforms. The uniform policy will be in full effect from Round 5. The requirements are in Section 9 of the MBA Domestic Competition By-Laws.

All players must be correctly registered to their team before playing. Only registered players can qualify for finals, and only players who attend a game should be marked on the scoring platform. If your team needs another player for a game, check the fill-in player rules before they take the court.
