Mitch Barry Re-Signs with Cougars for 2026
McKinnon Basketball Association are proud to announce that Mitch Barry has re-signed with the McKinnon Cougars for the Big V 2026 State Championship Men season.
Barry returns after captaining the Cougars through a dominant 2025 campaign, culminating in a State Championship Men’s Grand Final victory. It marked the club’s third consecutive Grand Final appearance, following championships in 2023 and 2025, and a runners-up finish in 2024.
Across the 2025 season, Mitch continued to set the standard at both ends of the floor, averaging 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while shooting over 45% from the field. His leadership, composure and consistency were central to the Cougars’ championship run.
Barry’s re-signing also provides important continuity as the program under incoming Head Coach James McKinnon, with the experienced point guard set to play a key role in guiding the playing group through the transition.
“I’m excited to return to The Den to see all the amazing fans and families, and ultimately win another championship,” Barry said.
Off the court, Barry continues to make a strong impact within the Cougars community, currently coaching the club’s Under 16.1 Boys. The group qualified for the Victorian Championship prior to the holiday break and will turn their attention to qualifying for the 2025 National Junior Classic.
With Barry recommitting, the Cougars retain a proven leader and championship presence as preparations begin for another title defence.
The Big V State Championship Men 2026 season will tip off on Saturday 28th March, with fixtures, home game details and game-day activations to be confirmed following this weekend’s Big V Promotion–Relegation Weekend.
