McKinnon Basketball Association is seeking an energetic, organised and development-focused Junior Development Officer to support the delivery and growth of our junior representative pathway in a unique part-time role.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands-on role in one of Melbourne’s leading basketball associations, supporting athlete development, coach alignment and pathway programming across our VJBL and junior development structure. The role combines on-court coaching, coach support, athlete mentorship and program coordination, with a strong focus on building consistency and quality across the representative pathway.
About the role
Reporting to the High Performance Manager, this role is responsible for:
supporting the delivery of McKinnon’s VJBL program through on-court training support
working with coaches to reinforce technical standards, session structure and program alignment
observing athlete development and identifying emerging talent
leading the delivery of Future Cougars and Rep Ready programs
coordinating session plans, attendance, parent communication and coach rostering
supporting athlete development, mentorship and progression into the representative pathway
assisting with VJBL tryouts, holiday camps and broader pathway development initiatives.

Skills and experience
We’re looking for someone with:
demonstrated experience coaching and engaging junior athletes
a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and player development
the ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaches and parents
strong organisational and time management skills
a professional and reliable approach
a current Working With Children Check.
Experience within representative basketball environments, Basketball Victoria coaching accreditation, experience delivering junior development programs or camps, and First Aid certification will be highly regarded.
Work schedule
This role is part time by agreement (approx. 16 hours per week) and primarily involves afternoon and evening work, aligned with VJBL training, Future Cougars, Rep Ready, tryouts and holiday camps. Some office-based administration may also be required.
