Youth Men Cougars Fall Short in Promotion Clash
Our McKinnon Cougars Youth Men saw their promotion hopes come to an end on Sunday, falling 111–98 to Wyndham in the opening game of the Big V Youth Qualification Series at Narrandjeri Stadium.
Wyndham struck first to lead 31–27 at quarter time, but our Cougars responded with great intent and energy, lifting at both ends of the floor to take a 52–47 lead into halftime. A challenging third quarter swung the momentum, with Wyndham pushing ahead to lead 80–67 at the final break.
Despite a determined final-quarter effort, the Cougars were unable to reel the margin back, with the result confirming there would be no second game on the day and that our Youth Men will compete in Youth League One this season.
There was plenty to like in the performance. Michael Aminov led the way with an outstanding all-round game of 25 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Thomas D’Amelio battled strongly inside to record 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Luke Lyngberg added 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Calvin Ramachandran also played an important role, finishing with 9 points, 6 assists and 2 steals.
